Betta Fish Care Guide

Everything you need to give your betta a happy, healthy life — backed by science, not pet store myths.

The "Betta in a Bowl" Myth

One of the most harmful myths in fishkeeping is that bettas can live in tiny bowls or vases. In the wild, bettas inhabit rice paddies and shallow streams that span thousands of gallons of water. While they can survive in stagnant water thanks to their labyrinth organ, surviving is not the same as thriving.

A betta in a bowl suffers from ammonia buildup, temperature swings, and stress — leading to fin rot, lethargy, and a dramatically shortened lifespan. With a proper 5-gallon heated and filtered tank, your betta will display vibrant colors, build bubble nests, and live 3-5 years or more.
